Construction starts on 6 stations in 2nd phase of Cross Island Line

Construction has officially begun on six stations under the second phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL), marking another major step forward in expanding Singapore’s future rail network. This phase will significantly improve east–west connectivity and reduce travel time for residents.

Where the New CRL Phase 2 Stations Will Be

The six stations span key residential, industrial and commercial zones:

  • West Coast
  • Pasir Panjang
  • Alexandra
  • Orchard Boulevard
  • Bright Hill interchange
  • Sin Ming

The new stations will integrate with existing MRT lines to further strengthen connectivity islandwide.

Part of Singapore’s Long-Term Transport Vision

Once fully completed, the CRL will become one of Singapore’s longest and most important MRT lines, connecting:

  • Residential estates
  • Industrial hubs
  • Major commercial corridors
  • Upcoming redevelopment zones

This expansion forms part of the government’s broader effort to create a more sustainable and accessible public transport system.

Shorter Travel Times for Hundreds of Thousands

The CRL Phase 2 section is expected to drastically reduce commute times. For example:

  • Bright Hill ↔ Jurong Lake District will be cut from ~1 hour to ~30 minutes
  • Pasir Panjang ↔ Woodlands will be significantly faster
  • Interconnections to Thomson–East Coast Line and Circle Line will enhance transfers

Key Construction Features

This phase includes complex engineering work, such as:

  • Deep excavation in urban zones
  • Tunnelling beneath existing rail lines
  • Building interchanges with minimal service disruption

Contractors will implement vibration-reduction and noise-control measures to minimise community impact.

Impact on Property Values

Historically, new MRT lines have boosted demand and prices for surrounding areas. Districts served by the new CRL Phase 2 stations — such as West Coast, Pasir Panjang, Bukit Timah and Sin Ming — are expected to enjoy long-term upside from increased accessibility and reduced travel times.

Looking Ahead

With construction underway, the second phase of the CRL is on track to enhance Singapore’s transport backbone. The full line will continue to support future housing, business and redevelopment plans across the island.
